ICELAND F-ROADS | 21 Days Through the Highlands in a Toyota Hilux

21 days. One Toyota Hilux. A family of four. And some of the wildest roads in Iceland. This is our journey beyond the Ring Road - deep into Iceland’s Highlands, along remote F-roads, across rivers, black deserts, mountains and the wild coastline of the Westfjords. We travelled Iceland in our Toyota Hilux with an Alu-Cab Modcap Family Camper, following some of the country’s most remote roads and searching for places that are harder to reach and impossible to forget. From the remote roads of the Westfjords and the legendary F622 to the Highlands, F208, F210, Landmannalaugar, Kerlingarfjöll and the surreal landscapes around Mælifell, this journey became much more than an overland trip. There were river crossings, endless gravel roads, strong Icelandic winds, rain, midnight light, volcanic landscapes and moments when we had absolutely no idea what was waiting around the next corner. But this film isn’t only about the roads. It’s about travelling as a family. About taking our kids into the wild. About slowing down. About getting dirty. About finding places where there is no signal, no schedule and nowhere else you need to be. Iceland reminded us why we travel in the first place. Not to collect destinations.
