After 15 years in a Vietnamese prison, I returned to a modern world I barely recognized. Today, I leave my rural village and go to the city to open a bank account and visit a supermarket. These may seem like ordinary things, but after 15 years behind bars, being able to walk freely through the city and choose what to buy with my own hands feels like a gift I will never take for granted again.
