That is why being a State Alchemist could be worse than becoming a Homunculus. Not because the Homunculi had easy lives. They were created from stolen souls, trapped under Father, and reduced to whatever sin he carved into them. Their existence was horrible from the start. But they knew they were monsters. State Alchemists were handed silver watches, research money, military rank, and enough respectable language to pretend they were heroes while doing Father’s work for him. That difference matters. A Homunculus is built as a weapon. A State Alchemist has to decide how long he can keep holding the trigger.
