We make a spontaneous stop at Dundee Beach to check out this relaxed, little coastal town, where we enjoy four-wheel driving to some fishing spots and exploring the area. However, we have a strange encounter, which makes us question if we should be here?!
This episode we say goodbye to our time in Litchfield National Park and make our way to Dundee Beach in the Northern Territory, Australia to stay for a few nights. However, we need to stock up on groceries first so make a quick stop into Berry Springs, before heading to our destination, Base Camp at Dundee. This is a great low-cost option in the area, with large, grassed sites amongst the bush which have power, water, great facilities, fire pits and there is even a very unique pool! We use this as a base to explore Dundee Beach, where we go for a drive but are surprised to find a lot of the beach front is blocked off due to private property, so we end up going down to the jetty for an afternoon fish then watch the beautiful sunset from Dundee Beach Tavern. This pub has a splash pad, where the kids can have a play, plus it does a good feed. The next day we head out to tackle some local four-wheel drive tracks. However, we feel a bit uneasy when we see some army personal walking with their guns along the track. We ask if it is okay to continue and get the nod, so continue driving along the narrow, overgrown tracks, which eventually open up along the beach. Here we encounter more army personal, who again don't seem to mind we are in the area, so we continue on, tackling the softer sand of the dunes, to reach our fishing spot at the creek opening. This is a lovely spot to enjoy, where there are lots of beautiful shell varieties, including unicorn shells, hermit crabs and bird life. We put the drone up to check for any crocodiles and even though we don't see any, are still on the lookout. Unfortunately, we don't land any fish, but still have enjoyed the day out here! One the way back we hear some bangs, which gives us a bit of a scare, so we make our way back to the safety of camp. We got to check out another fishing area along the beach which is a lovely spot to walk then back at camp enjoy a fire, before getting drenched by rain, but this does not damper our spirits, everyone is excited to see the rain again! The next morning, it is time to pack up, and we are glad to see the rain has cleared in time for us to move onto our next destination.
