Performed by the University of Minnesota Duluth Percussion Ensemble, directed by Gene Koshinski and Tim Broscious "Rolling Walnuts" (traditional Chinese) Rolling Walnuts is a traditional folk drumming piece from the Shanxi province of China. Shanxi is famous for growing walnuts. Farmers pick the walnuts from the trees then place them on the flat roofs of houses to let them dry by the sun. When dry, the walnuts are rolled into the gutters, through the downspouts, to the ground. Musically, the piece uses different parts of the traditional Chinese tom to depict the sounds of the walnuts rolling. This piece is usually played during harvest festivals in China and the choreography attached to the piece makes the work even more lively and celebrative. -Jianpeng Feng Performers: UMD Percussion Ensemble Audio: Don Schraufnagel Video: Bryden Gollhardt Video Editing: Emily Roane CHECK OUT UMD PERCUSSION HERE! https://sfa.d.umn.edu/about/departmen...
