The novel follows Minha, a spirited, "mouthy" girl, and Jazib Ali, a proud and disciplined SP (Superintendent of Police). Their initial interactions are a series of fiery, adversarial collisions—literal and figurative—including an encounter where Minha nearly hits Jazib's car and a comical argument over a pair of sandals. Despite their mutual irritation and Jazib's seemingly "rude" nature, he acts as Minha's protector in moments of danger.
Minha soon suffers a tragedy, losing both her parents, which leaves her vulnerable to predatory loan sharks. It is here that Jazib steps in, not just as a police officer but as a steadfast guardian, clearing her family's debt and ultimately marrying her out of a sense of duty and protection, with the help of his friend Zain Salik, who orchestrates the rushed marriage to save Minha's honor.
Minha, however, has a difficult time accepting the marriage, as her recent trauma and the words of others lead her to believe Jazib is merely acting out of pity and that all men are deceitful. Her emotional distress is compounded by an aggressive cousin, Shazma, who harbors ill feelings toward Minha. Minha's refusal to accept Jazib as her husband hurts him deeply, making him question his own worth.
Meanwhile, a second narrative unfolds, involving Jazib and his elite police team's mission to take down M.J., a powerful politician involved in drug and human trafficking, and to uncover the truth behind the murder of a former SP, Irfan Nadeem, and the wrongful imprisonment of Irfan’s colleague, Jamal Malik. Minha’s past—including an earlier kidnapping that leaves her with deep emotional and psychological scars—eventually intersects with this mission.
The novel builds on the themes of love overcoming adversity and the fulfillment of duty. Jazib's efforts to bring Minha out of her depression, often by being strict and giving her responsibilities, and his unwavering dedication to her safety, slowly break down the walls around her heart. In a dramatic twist, Jazib discovers that Irfan Nadeem and his wife, Heera Begum, are his biological parents and that Minha's mother, Heera Begum, is still alive, along with his two younger sisters, Amna (Zain's wife) and Roshni.
The family reunion is joyous, but it is marred by further tragedy when Zain is shot protecting Jazib from M.J.'s assassin. While recovering, Zain and Amna face their own marital conflict stemming from Amna's past judgments. The central conflict culminates in M.J.'s desperate final attempt to eliminate Jazib and recover the evidence that would expose him, leading to a perilous encounter where Minha bravely defends Jazib, proving her courage and finally confessing her love for her "Zaalim Ali."
The novel concludes with justice served as Jazib and his team successfully bring down M.J. and clear Jamal Malik's name. It ultimately celebrates the power of true love, trust, and the bonds of family as Jazib, Minha, Zain, and their families find happiness and fulfillment.
