12 Dark Chocolates Millions Think Are Healthy, Could They Be Harming Your Kidneys?
Millions choose dark chocolate because it seems healthier than regular candy. Less sugar, more cacao, antioxidants, and often premium or organic branding.
But independent testing has found something most shoppers never see on the nutrition label: lead and cadmium.
In this Consumer Health Exposed investigation, we examine 12 real dark chocolate products that were tested for heavy metals, including bars from Hershey’s, Lindt, Trader Joe’s, Godiva, Theo, Green & Black’s, Alter Eco, Ghirardelli, Tony’s Chocolonely, and more.
We look at which tested bars had comparatively lower results, which crossed Consumer Reports’ conservative benchmarks, which famous bar produced the highest lead result, and why cadmium matters when it comes to long-term kidney health.
Chronic cadmium exposure at sufficient levels can damage kidney function, while repeated lead exposure has been associated with kidney problems, high blood pressure, neurological effects, and reproductive harm.
This video does not claim that eating one chocolate bar causes kidney disease. The laboratory results represent specific tested products, and heavy-metal exposure depends on dose, frequency, duration, other environmental sources, and individual health.
The real question is:
If dark chocolate has become part of your daily “healthy” routine, do you know what else may be coming with the cacao?
