Puri Sea Turns Dangerous: Beach Erosion Forces Tourist Bathing Restrictions | Coastline Under Threat The Puri coastline is facing severe erosion, with chunks of the beach reportedly collapsing from the Lighthouse area towards Mangala Muhana, prompting restrictions on tourist bathing. Strong sea waves have been eroding the coastline from Baliapanda towards Sipasarubali, with waves reaching nearby shops and other structures. Earlier measures including stone packing and sand-filled bags were used at vulnerable stretches near Mangala Muhana, while geosynthetic tubes had also been proposed as a long-term measure to check seawater intrusion and beach erosion. With parts of these protective measures now reportedly damaged or washed away, concerns over further coastal erosion have increased.
