He Left Uganda's Chaos for Switzerland's Cycling Lanes — Then Built a Bridge Between Both
Meet @IsmailSsekiwu: A Ugandan in Switzerland, nurse, father of two, and the man turning a health scare into a movement. After a cardiologist warned him about his heart, he bought a used bike for 200 Swiss Francs and it changed everything. Ten years later, he's cycling to Geneva for fun, training on carbon bikes worth more than a car, and running Life Cyclers Uganda, an organization bringing bikes, mechanic training, and real opportunity to young cyclists back home in Mukono - Uganda.
In this episode of Off The Equator, we talk about:
Why cycling in Uganda is seen as "a poor man's transport" and how that mindset is changing
Life as a Ugandan father and Swiss citizen including mandatory military tax if you skip training
Paul Miro — the national junior champion Life Cyclers Uganda discovered and helped go pro
Why girls cycling is still breaking cultural barriers in parts of Uganda
How you can donate a bike, sponsor a young cyclist, or book a cycling safari in Uganda
