💻 2011 vs 2015 MacBook Pro — macOS TAHOE SPEED TEST REMATCH! Can a 2011 MacBook Pro really keep up with a 2015 MacBook Pro running macOS Tahoe 26.7.2? Both Macs are running Tahoe using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 3.0.0-rc5. In this rematch, I'll compare boot times, application loading, web browsing, YouTube playback and overall performance. I've also created and tested a FREE performance script that disables chronod (the widget daemon) and Spotlight background services to investigate CPU usage on older unsupported Macs. The script includes an UNDO option! 🔧 HOW TO CREATE AND RUN MY SCRIPT STEP 1 — Open Terminal on your Mac. STEP 2 — Create the script on your Desktop. Enter this command and press Enter: nano ~/Desktop/tahoe-fix.sh STEP 3 — Copy everything between START OF SCRIPT and END OF SCRIPT, starting with #!/bin/bash and ending with done. Paste it into nano using Command + V. 📋 START OF SCRIPT #!/bin/bash macOS Tahoe Performance Fix Disables/Enables chronod and Spotlight if [ "$EUID" -eq 0 ]; then echo "Do not run this script with sudo directly." exit 1 fi show_menu() { clear echo "========================================" echo " macOS Tahoe Performance Optimizer" echo "========================================" echo " 1) Apply Fix" echo " 2) Undo Fix" echo " 3) Exit" echo "========================================" echo -n "Choose an option [1-3]: " } apply_fix() { echo "Applying performance tweaks..." echo "Disabling chronod..." launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u)/com.apple.chronod launchctl disable gui/$(id -u)/com.apple.chronod echo "Disabling Spotlight indexing..." sudo mdutil -a -d echo "Disabling Spotlight services..." sudo launchctl bootout system/com.apple.metadata.mds sudo launchctl disable system/com.apple.metadata.mds echo "Complete! Please reboot your Mac." read -p "Press Enter to return to menu..." } undo_fix() { echo "Restoring macOS settings..." echo "Re-enabling chronod..." launchctl enable gui/$(id -u)/com.apple.chronod launchctl kickstart -kp gui/$(id -u)/com.apple.chronod echo "Re-enabling Spotlight services..." sudo launchctl enable system/com.apple.metadata.mds sudo launchctl kickstart -kp system/com.apple.metadata.mds echo "Re-enabling Spotlight indexing..." sudo mdutil -a -i on echo "Settings restored! Please reboot." read -p "Press Enter to return to menu..." } while true; do show_menu read choice case $choice in apply_fix ;; undo_fix ;; echo "Goodbye!"; exit 0 ;; *) echo "Invalid option."; read ;; esac done 📋 END OF SCRIPT STEP 4 — SAVE THE SCRIPT Press CTRL + O (letter O), then ENTER to save. Press CTRL + X to exit nano. STEP 5 — MAKE THE SCRIPT EXECUTABLE Enter this command in Terminal: chmod +x ~/Desktop/tahoe-fix.sh Press Enter. STEP 6 — RUN THE SCRIPT Open Finder and locate tahoe-fix.sh on your Desktop. Drag the file into Terminal and press Enter. Alternatively, enter: ~/Desktop/tahoe-fix.sh STEP 7 — CHOOSE YOUR OPTION 1 — Apply Fix: Disables chronod and Spotlight. 2 — Undo Fix: Attempts to restore chronod and Spotlight. 3 — Exit. Enter your administrator password if requested. Restart your Mac after applying or undoing the changes. ⚠️ IMPORTANT: This is an experimental tweak for unsupported Macs. Disabling Spotlight affects macOS search functionality. I've tested the script successfully on my machines, but results may vary. The undo option may not restore every service automatically. Back up your Mac before making changes. 🔜 COMING SOON — macOS SEQUOIA vs macOS TAHOE! I'll soon be putting two identical 2015 MacBook Pros side by side, one running macOS Sequoia and the other running macOS Tahoe! We'll compare boot times, application loading, web browsing, YouTube playback and overall performance to find out which operating system runs better on this older hardware. Is upgrading to Tahoe really worth it, or does Sequoia offer better performance? Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss this comparison! 💬 Have you installed macOS Tahoe on an older Mac?
