The Vietnam War is the conflict everyone has heard of and almost nobody can explain from beginning to end. So here it is — the entire thing, in order, in one video. We start with French paratroopers dropping into a valley called Dien Bien Phu and finish with the last helicopter lifting off a Saigon rooftop in April 1975. In between, you'll see how a colonial war became an American war one decision at a time: a temporary line drawn at the 17th parallel that hardened into a border, a few hundred advisors that quietly grew into half a million troops, a murky night in the Gulf of Tonkin that turned into a blank check from Congress, and a bombing campaign meant to last eight weeks that ran for three years. We follow the fighting where it actually happened — the Ia Drang Valley, the trails winding through Laos and Cambodia, the siege lines at Khe Sanh, the street-by-street ruins of Hue — and we follow the politics that kept it going long after Washington privately admitted it could not be won. IN THIS VIDEO • Why France lost at Dien Bien Phu, and what America decided to learn from it • The Gulf of Tonkin incident and the vote that handed the White House a blank check • Tet 1968: the military defeat that broke American support for the war • The Ho Chi Minh Trail, search-and-destroy, and the brutal arithmetic of attrition • My Lai, Cambodia, Kent State and the Pentagon Papers — the war turning inward • Fifty-five days: the collapse of South Vietnam and the final evacuation If you could hand one American president a single warning before he escalated, which president would you choose — and what would you tell him? Leave it in the comments. #VietnamWar #History #Documentary #ColdWar #AnimatedHistory CHAPTERS 0:00 The Rooftop and the Valley 1:07 The Temporary Line 2:12 The Coup in Saigon 3:24 The Blank Check Vote 4:28 The Marines Land 5:35 The Ho Chi Minh Trail 6:56 The Attrition Machine 8:04 The Tet Offensive 9:11 The Victory That Lost 10:18 My Lai 11:37 The Pentagon Papers 12:50 Fifty-five Days 13:24 What It Cost SOURCES & FURTHER READING • U.S. Army Center of Military History — 'Advice and Support' series and the Vietnam Studies / official campaign histories • U.S. Marine Corps History Division — 'U.S. Marines in Vietnam' official series (1965, The Defining Year 1968, The Bitter End 1973-1975), 'The Battle for Hue, 1968', 'The Battle for Khe Sanh' • Naval History and Heritage Command — Gulf of Tonkin incident records; Operation Frequent Wind and Seventh Fleet after-action reports • National Security Agency — Robert J.
