2015 Ute Ulay Mine

The Ute Ulay Mine is known as "the mine that made Lake City." Nestled along Henson Creek, the Ute Ulay mine taps two separate veins of ore, which produced silver, lead, and tin. Production began in 1874, and followed an on-again, off-again pattern of production that lasted well into the 20th century. The buildings still survive today, attracting many tourists who drive the scenic Alpine Loop Byway. The hope is to be able to stabilize the structures and provide for trails around the complex with interpretive signs showing what it what, and its importance to Lake City.
