The ministries of the Church were never created for status, position or personal importance. They are gifts from the risen and ascended Christ for the building of His people.
📖 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.” — Ephesians 4:11
In Gifts from the Ascended Christ, we continue through Ephesians 4 and consider the ministries Christ Himself has given to His Church.
Apostles. Prophets. Evangelists. Pastors and teachers.
These ministries do not belong to individuals, nor were they invented by the Church. They belong to Christ. He gives, He calls, He places and He directs — because the Church and everyone within it belong to Him.
But why did Christ give these gifts?
📖 “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” — Ephesians 4:12
The purpose is not for a small group of gifted people to do everything. Christ gives ministries to prepare His people to minister. Every believer has a place in the body of Christ, and every believer has been called to serve.
The foundation has been laid. The Word of God is sufficient. Yet Christ continues to build His Church — through apostolic, prophetic and evangelistic ministry, and through pastors and teachers who faithfully open the Scriptures and shepherd His people.
Ultimately, it is all about Jesus Christ building His Church and bringing His people into maturity, unity and the fullness of Christ.
