I’ve had quite a bit of sin to walk away from to get to where I am today. There are parts of my life I’m not proud of, but there is a God who has shown me more patience, mercy, and grace than I could ever deserve. I know where I’ve been, and I know Who brought me through it.
There’s something a little bittersweet about finally deciding to share years of songwriting with the world at a time when artificial intelligence has changed the landscape of music so dramatically.
But I still believe there’s hope.
If there’s one thing I would ever ask someone to listen for in my songs, it’s the melodies. Over the years, I’ve spent countless hours developing them, and I’ve always believed there’s something especially beautiful about a melody that comes from the heart.
As I’ve explored more music in this new era of AI, I’ve found that melodies are often where I notice the greatest difference. I don’t say that to boast. I’ve simply always loved writing unique, sweet melodies, and I hope that part of my music speaks for itself.
And I want to be clear about something. I’m genuinely thankful for the advancements in technology, provided they’re used appropriately. Technology has given us incredible opportunities to create, share, and connect in ways previous generations could hardly have imagined.
Think about it. If we traveled back 400 years, worship music wouldn’t sound anything like what we’re accustomed to today. The instruments, arrangements, recording methods, and even the musical styles would be vastly different. And I imagine that 50 years from now, worship music will sound different still.
The methods change. The tools evolve. But the heart of worship, and more importantly, the One we worship, remain the same.
I don’t believe we need to fear every advancement. I believe we need wisdom in how we use them, and honesty about what we’re creating.
I’ve spent what I would estimate to be more than 3,000 hours over the past few years alone writing, recording, refining, and developing music. Not because I’m pursuing a music career. Not because I want to monetize it. And certainly not because I need attention.
If anything, my hope is that whatever attention these songs receive might be directed toward God instead.
And I’ll admit something else: there’s a human part of me that worries about losing something I’ve treasured for so long. This gift of music has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life, and watching the world change around it can sometimes be discouraging.
But then I remember something.
The same God who gave me this gift in the first place is above all of it. Above technology. Above the noise. Above our homes, the weather, the circumstances we cannot control, and the things we sometimes allow to steal our peace. He is greater than the negative, and He is still at work in the good.
So why should I be afraid?
I don’t need to compete with a changing world. I just need to remain faithful with what I’ve been given.
That’s really what this song, Home, means to me.
Home isn’t necessarily a place. It’s the security of knowing Who holds you, even when everything around you changes.
I’m not here to build a name for myself. I’m here to use whatever I’ve been given to point toward His.
And whether these songs reach ten people or ten thousand, I hope they serve that purpose.
I do this for Him. He knows.
Thank you for taking the time to listen. I hope you’ll enjoy this song in its raw, acoustic form. Just a simple arrangement, a melody from my heart, and a reminder of where our true home is found.
