The first weekend of August saw the appearance of a really useful engine on the Mid Hants Railway - a loco that carries the colours that resemble a character from the Railway Series. Of course, it was Thomas! Hunslet 0-6-0 No. 3781 has been pressed into service on the 10 mile line, due to a shortage of motive power. Affectionately known as 'Dave' by MHR Volunteers, the loco is usually found appearing at 'Day out with Thomas' events. Outshopped in 1952 for the National Coal Board as Hunslet Saddle Tank No. 3781, the 0-6-0 spent its working life at NCB Maesteg in South Wales, before moving to the Kent & East Sussex Railway in 1977. The loco returned to steam in 1988, carrying the name 'Linda' for several years before moving again, this time to the Mid Hants Railway, in 1994. It was here that the 0-6-0 was covered into a Side Tank, so it could run as 'Thomas' during 'Day out with Thomas' events. The loco has also visited other Heritage Railways to appear at their respective 'Thomas' events. This video captures the action on Sunday 2nd August, with 'Thomas' running alongside Ivatt Tank No. 41312 on the two-train service. On Sunday 2nd August, the loco would take charge of a three coach train, consisting of two departures from Alton. Also in operation was LMS Ivatt 2MT No. 41312, which would handle two departures from Alresford. All scenes were captured on Sunday 2nd August 2020.
