Coast to Coast - Part 1 (Day 3) - Stonethwaite to Patterdale - Backpacking the C2C

This is day 3 of us backing the first half or Wainwright’s Coast to Coast trail that runs 182 miles from St Bees through to Robin Hood Bay. We started of in our wild camping spot alongside Langstrath Beck. We had to pack up quickly as the farmer appeared on the opposite side of the beck, but he didn’t say anything. I’m guessing he maybe knew we were responsible backpackers, or maybe it wasn’t his land. Either way, he didn’t seem bothered by our presence. Day 3 started with a climb up the valley to Lining Crag, which you have to scramble up, so it was a good leg stretcher first thing. We went across Grasmere Common, be careful with your navigation here, lost of groups got lost, luckily we didn’t. We headed down the valley into Grassmere to get something to eat and re-supply as we were all quite hungry. We then headed up alongside Tongue Gill up to Grisedale Tarn. The last part of the climb is quite steep. I’ve been here a few times before, but do love the Tarn as its a lovely place to stop and even wild camp, although it was very windy on the day we were there. We then made our way over the top and down to Patterdale to Side farm Campsite. The campsite was quite nice but not a lot of flat spots to pitch. Still, the shower was very welcome. At this point I should confess that I had some problems filming, I didn’t really notice until day 4 but I had set the GoPro up wrongly. The actual GoPro 9 performed well, it was user error that was the problem. I guess when your in a group of 4, you can’t always give the filming the attention I needs, lesson learnt!
