In the excitement of His arrival, the majestic peacocks dance, birds sing His praise and the bees offer Him their honey. Seeing this procession, Athmavalli's friends are curious to know who the handsome newcomer is. Is He the courageous warrior Murugan, who holds the Vel and rides the peacock? Animals create an enchanting atmosphere and the scene moves to (flower ball), Athamalli sees Murugan for the first time and immediately falls in love. Athmavalli asks her friends who He is: He has stolen her heart with His mesmerising eyes and beautiful smile - she questions whether there is anyone as handsome? Her friends tease her love and mock Murugan's family: His big-bellied brother Ganesha, His dark-coloured mother Kali, and His father Shiva who dances on one leg and rides a bull! She cannot be swayed. He is image consumes all of her thoughts, and she laments in separation from Murugan. The moon's cooling rays seem to burn her. She asks Cupid, who suffered at the at the hands of Lord Shiva, why he is now making her suffer with his love arrows. This mischievous and materialistic fortune - telling gipsy (Kurathi) arrives in Athmavalli's place and speaks with great pride about her land. Reading Athmavalli's palm, she confirms that all her wishes will be fulfilled. Murugan arrives in a traditional Mallari, followed by the Kavadi dancers.
