Sometimes you just have to trust your gut 🎣 I headed out to the Lake Michigan shoreline for an afternoon and evening of chasing fall king salmon from shore. I started out fishing a river mouth for a few hours before eventually deciding to move on and see what else I could find. As darkness approached, I checked out a few different areas around the harbor and piers. There were plenty of people fishing, so instead of joining the crowd, I decided to do something different and made the walk out onto a rocky jetty where nobody else was fishing. The night didn’t exactly start according to plan. My Yeti disappeared between the rocks, my UV flashlight was dead, and after throwing a spoon for about an hour, I still hadn’t had much action. Eventually, something in my gut told me to switch things up. I tied on a Fire Tiger Rapala J13 and started slowly working it through the darkness. A handful of casts later, I got absolutely CRUSHED. After an awesome fight in the dark, I landed a beautiful female king salmon that was still incredibly chrome. Moments like this are exactly why I love chasing these fish. You can make all the plans you want, but sometimes taking a chance, getting away from the crowd, and trusting your instincts pays off. Thanks for watching!
