Tom - who was also an actor (Emmerdale Farm) and professional voiceover artist - was a great choice to present the extremely diverse range of music in the charts at this time. His mellow style also made good sense for a programme that was carried on Radio 2's FM network as well as Radio 1. It would be more than a decade until Radio 1 had it's own network of FM transmitters across the UK so, for those of us who had appalling Radio 1 reception on 247 metres medium wave, these FM simulcasts were a real treat. Occasionally, people have picked me up on the dates of these recordings but my own hand-writing on the cassette doesn't lie! I think where the confusion kicks in is that data from the Official Charts Company is inaccurate for this time period. They list this chart as: 04 December 1977 - 10 December 1977 https://www.officialcharts.com/charts... They don't take into account that the chart was published on a Tuesday each week (not Sundays), announced live on Radio 1 by Paul Burnett at lunchtime. This chart would then be used for BBC 1's Top of the Pops which was pre-recorded the following day (Wednesday), broadcast on Thursday evening. Then the whole chart was broadcast on Sunday evening on Radio 1. So THIS programme reflects the chart that was published the previous Tuesday. Captured on a TDK C-120 cassette on my Boots Audio radio-cassette recorder, this programme is the first in a regular run of my own Chart Show recordings that will take us right through 1978 - enjoy!
