What does good leadership look like—and what should communities expect from those who step forward to lead? In this Whistler Institute conversation, Leading with Purpose: Lessons from Civic & Community Leaders, experienced leaders Mary-Ann Booth and Diana Chan join moderator Sue Adams for a candid discussion about leadership, governance, public service, and community building. Drawing on their experiences across local government, business, governance, and the not-for-profit sector, the panel explores what it takes to lead with purpose, navigate difficult decisions, build trust, and serve a community effectively. They also reflect on lessons learned along the way—including what they might do differently with the benefit of hindsight. This conversation was presented on September 16, 2026 at the Maury Young Arts Centre in Whistler, BC, and marked the launch of the Whistler Institute’s Leadership Development Initiative—an emerging program focused on strengthening leadership and governance capacity within our community. Panelists Mary-Ann Booth — Former Mayor of West Vancouver Diana Chan — Corporate Director, Governance Leader & Community Volunteer Moderator Sue Adams — Business Leader & Not-for-Profit Board Chair Learn more about the Whistler Institute and our upcoming conversations and initiatives at whistlerinstitute.com. #WhistlerInstitute #Leadership #CommunityLeadership #Governance #CivicLeadership #Whistler
