This project is dedicated to the young souls of the Himeyuri students, and to all those who lost their lives for the countries and people they loved. Beyond all borders, may they rest in eternal peace. This song is a prayer for peace, the memory of the "Himeyuri Students" (Himeyuri Gakutobutai)—young female students who lost their lives in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. The name "Himeyuri" is historically profound. It did not originally come from the flower itself, but was born by combining the symbols of two prestigious schools: "Otohime" (Princess) and "Shirayuri" (White Lily). To the students who studied there with bright dreams for the future, "Himeyuri" was a name of great pride. In this piece, you will hear symbolic words woven into the melody that carry deep meanings: Himeyuri / Himeyuri no Hana (The Himeyuri Flower) – Representing the fleeting yet noble lives of these young girls. The Pink Carnation – In the lyrics, "The pink carnation blooms proud in search of peace." This represents *"Nadeshiko,"* a traditional Japanese term for a native pink flower. While the name is famous globally through Japan’s women’s national football team (Nadeshiko Japan), it deeply symbolizes the traditional ideal of Japanese womanhood—not just elegance, but a resilient, unwavering inner strength and dignity. Himeyuri Spirit (Himeyuri no Kokoro) – The beautiful mind, courage, and ultimate devotion to peace that they carried through the darkest times. Though they faced a tragic fate, their gentle hearts, unwavering courage, and prayers for peace continue to fly high into the eternal blue sky. This video is part of a special 4-part music series born from the same powerful lyrics, praying for eternal world peace through the memory of the Himeyuri students. Each version features a completely different melody, tempo, and visual background. Please enjoy comparing the different expressions. Lyrics [Verse 1] The sound of a piano, friends laughing so bright Echoed through the school of pristine white Then out of nowhere, the sky ripped apart A pouring black rain pierced through the heart [Verse 2] The classroom windows shatter and fall The scenery we loved is gone beyond recall "Father, Mother, my siblings so small ""Please stay alive!" through my tears I call [Chorus] Roaring explosions, the trembling ground A gentle girl’s hand is held and bound Turning our sorrow into the strength to cope Deep in the dark cave, lighting a spark of hope [Verse1] Mud on the sleeves of uniforms torn Holding the hands of soldiers forlorn Staying close by to soothe every cry A girl’s voice sings through the night sky [Verse 2] "Just to protect everyone we hold dear "On tiny shoulders, bearing fate and fear Bandaging wounds with fingertips that shake "Because this is the stand we must make" [Chorus] An island in flames, gunfire won't cease The pink carnation blooms proud in search of peace With no consideration for their own breath Saving the lives right in front of death [Verse 1] The final hour is drawing so nigh Even the blue sea turns red to the eye Yet they never give up, they won't let go Holding someone's hand through the sorrow [Verse 2] Softly, so softly, they close their eyes Pressing muddy hands as the spirit flies Becoming the warm breeze of their home place Departing far into the sky’s embrace [Chorus] The waves crash and echo on Mabuni Hill The Himeyuri spirit is living there still Giving their all till their very last day We will never forget their beautiful way [Bridge] Looking up at the sky so blue We are living this day anew The future they dreamed of in the past A flower blooming after tears at last The Himeyuri flowers rose to the sky above Never again will a sad rain fall on the ones we love With hands pressed together, we pray for release May this world forever remain in peace [Outro] They melted into the sky so blue Like the glittering constellations shining through #PeacePrayer #Himeyuri #AntiWarMusic #OkinawaSong #BeautifulMelody
