Ladakh on a Motorcycle: Snow, Sand Dunes & Pangong Lake
The ride from Leh to Pangong Lake is an experience in contrasts. Snow-covered mountain passes, dramatic Himalayan roads, the desert landscapes of Nubra Valley, and the extraordinary blue waters of Pangong Lake — all in one unforgettable motorcycle journey.
In Episode 2 of my Ladakh motorcycle trip, we leave Leh early in the morning and ride towards Khardung La, hoping to reach the famous mountain pass before the crowds arrive. The previous night's rain has changed the conditions, and as we climb higher, snow begins to appear along the road.
After experiencing our first high-altitude pass of the trip, we descend towards Nubra Valley, where the landscape changes dramatically. Snow-covered mountains give way to vast sand dunes, unexpected rain, and the unique scenery of Hunder.
The following day, we continue towards Pangong Lake, riding alongside the Shyok River and crossing a rugged stretch of road carved through the mountains. Then comes that unforgettable first glimpse of Pangong — its incredible blue water surrounded by barren Himalayan mountains.
This is a first-hand account of a Ladakh road trip, with real riding footage, changing weather, mountain roads, and the landscapes that make travelling through Ladakh so special.
