Tascam 144 Basic Rundown

Yo! This is Mellow Thing. I’m a latino beatmaker, drummer, & producer born and raised in East LA, California. Sharing with you a basic rundown of the classic 4 - track cassette tape recorder, the Tascam 144. You can record 4 sources at once with this cool machine only drawback is that with 4 sources being recorded simultaneously, you’ll have to live mix using the panning knob/pot. This can be a problem since if something is in the center or not completely left or right the signal for that track ends up on the other. So my suggestion is to at most record 2 mono signals at once and panning one completely left and the other completely right before hitting record. This makes it eassier when bouncing the track onto you daw using the L + R out. Has a really cool pitch control feature that’s really fun to use when sampling off of cassettes or running loops through the 144. Gives things textures without creating artifacts.
