🎉 Welcome to the Ashenda Festival 2026! Join me as we experience one of Ethiopia's most vibrant and culturally rich celebrations. In this video, I take you through the beautiful traditions of Ashenda — a festival celebrated by young women and girls in the Tigray and Amhara regions of Ethiopia. 🌿 WHAT IS ASHENDA? Ashenda, also known as Shadey, Ashendye, or Solel, is an annual cultural and religious festival celebrated in northern Ethiopia. It marks the end of the two-week fasting period called Filseta, observed by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in honor of the Virgin Mary [4†L18-L20][0†L33-L35]. The festival is named after the tall, elegant Ashenda grass that girls tie around their waists, symbolizing angel wings as they give thanks to Mary for her protection and guidance [0†L12-L15][0†L19-L20]. ✨ WHAT YOU'LL SEE IN THIS VIDEO: • Traditional white dresses and colorful cultural attire • Young women and girls singing and dancing through the streets • The Ashenda grass decoration and its symbolic meaning 📍 LOCATION: Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia 📅 DATE: August 22, 2026 🙏 THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!
