A rare look at Jimmy Castor & The Jimmy Castor Bunch LIVE in 1973 — presented and preserved by the Jimmy Castor family. Jimmy Castor, known as “The Everything Man,” was a singer, songwriter, saxophonist, producer, bandleader and one of the most original performers to emerge from New York. His career stretched from the Doo-Wop era of the 1950s through funk, soul, disco and into the birth and evolution of Hip-Hop culture. By 1973, The Jimmy Castor Bunch had already released the landmark album It’s Just Begun, featuring records including: • “It’s Just Begun” • “Troglodyte (Cave Man)” “It’s Just Begun” would go on to become one of the most important break records in Hip-Hop and breaking culture, used by generations of DJs, B-Boys, B-Girls, dancers, filmmakers and artists around the world. This full-length performance captures what made Jimmy Castor different — musicianship, humor, storytelling, funk, crowd interaction and, of course, the saxophone. Jimmy’s influence continues through Hip-Hop, breaking, sampling, film, television and generations of musicians who discovered his work decades after these recordings were first made.
