Welcome to Generation! ⛪︎
📖 John 4:1-26
In John 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman who has spent her life looking to people and relationships for something they could never ultimately provide. Her story reveals something true of all of us: we dig “cisterns”—achievement, approval, money, relationships, comfort, even religion—hoping they’ll satisfy our deepest thirst. But eventually, they run dry. Jesus doesn’t offer us a better cistern. He offers Himself: living water that becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within us. We cannot manufacture what only God can provide.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. John 4:16–18: Why do you think Jesus brings the woman's marital history into the conversation? What does His response show about the relationship between grace and truth?
2. John 4:28–30: What do you think changed in the woman after her encounter with Jesus? What evidence does the text give us that something has changed?
3. John 4:39–42: What is the distinction between believing because of the woman's testimony and believing because they themselves heard Jesus? Why is that distinction important?
4. What is something you are tempted to look to for safety, comfort, security, hope, peace in other than Jesus? What would it look like to turn to Him instead?
5. The woman invites people in her town to “come and see a man who told me about my life”. What area of your life have you experienced the grace of God that others need to hear about? Who specifically do you think needs to hear your testimony?
