Ceuta Residents Destroy Migrant Beach Camp, Throw Belongings Into Sea as Tensions Rise

Residents of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa destroyed a makeshift migrant camp on a beach on Friday, August 28, as tensions between locals and migrants continued to rise. Residents tore down tents, threw migrants' belongings into the sea and lit a bonfire while waving Spanish flags. Earlier, protesters blocked a nearby road and chanted slogans including “kick out invaders.” The confrontation came after a mass crossing from Morocco in late July that sharply intensified tensions in the Spanish enclave.
