Pat Kennedy Married Into HOLLYWOOD. Marilyn's Last Goodbye Began With Her NAME
In the society pages, it was the prettiest story of 1954. The sixth child of Joseph P. Kennedy married an MGM star, moved into Louis B. Mayer's old beach house in Santa Monica, and gave her brother's campaigns a Hollywood shine nobody else in the family could buy. The president came to that house. So did Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, and Marilyn Monroe. But the marriage ended in an Idaho courtroom in 1966, the first divorce any of the Kennedy children ever went through. In between came a helipad Sinatra built for a guest who never arrived, a birthday gala at Madison Square Garden, a Saturday night phone call in August 1962, and the afternoon in Dallas that took away the reason the marriage existed. And according to Peter Lawford, one of the last sentences Marilyn Monroe ever spoke began with four words. Say goodbye to Pat.
