Barwon River Fishing. This Fish Fights Hard… But How Does It Taste?

This week I headed down to Barwon Heads for some bait fishing on the Barwon River. My target species was mullet. I’d spotted heaps of them on previous trips, so the plan was to catch a few and take one home to try as sushi. Unfortunately, the mullet didn’t turn up. Instead, I started catching plenty of small Australian salmon, which all went back. While waiting for something to take the bait, I decided to pick up the soft plastic rod and flick a ZMan StreakZ 3.75” around. On the third cast, I hooked onto a nice 42cm silver trevally. It put up an awesome fight and definitely saved the session. I didn’t catch much else besides more small Aussie salmon, but one good fish was enough. Back home, I turned the fresh trevally into nigiri. Sometimes the fish you weren’t targeting ends up being the highlight of the day!
