Phil Collins Venue: Prins van Oranjehal Location: Utrecht, Netherlands Date: April 10, 1994 Audience recording Audio Quality: A-/B+ (rating because of too much talking heard over the song) This is definitely another excellent show to have and to hear! If you have not heard this whole show, you are in for a real treat! Despite missing the opening drum duet with Ricky, we jump into a great “I Don’t Care Anymore” and run through a great set for sure. To me, this is one of the Top Ten shows I enjoy from this tour. Despite the sound at times being annoying with people talking near the recorder, it really is an amazing show! Phil pulls out more of the stops on his technically fourth show in Utrecht. Something interesting that he would do going forward was that when he played a venue twice, he would often make the second show different from the first show when it came to the setlist. In the case of some of the shows further into 1994, Phil would rotate the song “Everyday” with “Can’t Turn Back the Years”. However this show is particularly special because this is a rare moment where Phil puts both songs in the set. Whether or not you trust the website setlist.com, you can look up and see that shows we do not have an audience recording such as April 12th in Belgium, the website mentions that the setlist is nearly identical to this show with both “Everyday” and “Can’t Turn Back the Years”. When we pick up the next show that’s available in Dortmund, April 15th, “Can’t Find My Way” will replace “Can’t Turn Back the Years”. Is this a mistake by setlist.com or is it true? The Zurich show on April 23rd where I believe he met Orianne, setlist.com indicates he did the same setlist as this show. Whether he did or not, hopefully one day we learn the truth. Anyway, yes we get to hear “Can’t Turn Back the Years” in its earliest stages which is fantastic despite the amount of talking going on from the audience. The beautiful added introduction which is not found on the studio version, that which I have always been curious what it represents exactly. I don’t know it feels like it must have some meaning to Phil but that is just my opinion. Still I think the best version of “Can’t Turn Back the Years” comes later on the tour in Toronto on June 17th when Phil does more of an improv on the third verse which is awesome and we have video of it! I have it listed on my page if you have not listened to it and just to compare it. It really is amazing and highly recommend it. A little more bantering and storytelling by Phil between some songs including “Paradise” and “Rain Down”. And another excellent version of “Helpless Heart” and “Against All Odds” where, to me he kills it again like on April 4th! What do you think??
