Wenatchee High School does CTE exceptionally well. Last year alone, WHS students earned 1,871 industry-recognized certificates through Career and Technical Education programs — real credentials that mean something to real employers before graduation. CTE is one of the biggest reasons students choose WHS.
So what does the bond have to do with it?
In Episode 7 of Bond FAQ Friday, Superintendent Kory Kalahar takes you inside WHS's CTE programs — and explains why the building is actively holding them back.
Here is what you will learn:
🔧 What CTE at WHS actually looks like today; Agriculture and FFA, Air Force Junior ROTC, Health Occupations, Engineering, Sports Medicine, and much more. This is not your grandfather's shop class.
⚡ Why the district cannot add a data center technician program even as Microsoft builds six facilities in Malaga and the workforce demand grows because the building cannot handle the electrical capacity without an entirely new substation.
🎿 Where WHS students are manufacturing skis and snowboards right now in a trailer behind the school, because the building has run out of room for the program to grow inside it.
🌱 What happens to the greenhouses and the beloved annual FFA plant sale they are not going anywhere. Greenhouse space is included in the new campus site plan.
🏗️ What purpose-built CTE spaces in the new two-story classroom blocks would make possible expanded programs, new workforce partnerships, and the electrical capacity and infrastructure modern CTE requires.
If the building has been the ceiling, the bond raises it.
Wenatchee voters will consider the $275 million bond measure on November 3, 2026 that, if approved, would rebuild most of Wenatchee High School — including purpose-built CTE spaces — and replace aging HVAC systems at seven schools across the district.
