She Cut One Notch for Every Day She Survived Alone… Never Knowing Who Watched Her Chimney

For five years she lived alone in a house made of dirt… and every single morning, someone was watching her chimney smoke. Kansas, 1881. Nell Pruitt files a homestead claim with no husband, no brother and no father — just a mare, an ox and her own two hands. She breaks the prairie, builds a sod house and cuts one notch in the doorframe for every day she survives. Blizzards, drought, a banker who wants her land and a foreman who plays with fire all try to drive her out. On the ridge above her claim lives Gideon Marsh, a quiet rancher who argues with her about a fence… and never says why he's always the first to show up when trouble comes. When proof day arrives, the banker swears no woman could have broken that sod alone. The law needs two witnesses. Who will stand up for her — and what is the one question her neighbor has waited five years to ask? 🎬 A full-length original Western drama from Souls of the Frontier. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Proof Day: "No Woman Broke That Sod Alone" 0:57 Ransom Creek, 1881 — Filing the Claim 2:44 The General Store and the Banker's Man 4:08 Breaking the Prairie 5:54 Building the Sod House 6:48 A Friend at the Creek 7:53 The Fence War Begins 9:58 The Winter of '83 11:36 Firewood in the Storm 13:18 Summer, 1884 — The Drought 15:50 Digging for Water 16:57 The Night the Hay Burned 18:55 The Storekeeper's Secret 19:49 Cut Wire and a Street Fight 22:08 Looking for Two Witnesses 24:54 The Hearing at the Land Office 27:34 The Banker's Last Warning 28:27 Gunfire at the Sod House 30:14 What the Ledger Proved 31:32 The First Harvest 32:36 One Question at the Fence 34:17 Epilogue ❤️ If this story touched your heart, subscribe and turn on notifications — a new frontier story every week. 💬 Tell us in the comments: would you have stayed on that claim alone?
