The Most Football Obsessed City In The World

One of the host cities at UEFA Euro 2024, Gelsenkirchen is much-maligned in Germany, due to it's perception as being poor, neglected, and unglamorous. Whatever you say about Gelsenkirchen, however, you cannot question the city's passion for football. From a population of just 260,000, Schalke 04 have almost 200,000 members, the second most in the Bundesliga, behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, and the sixth most in the world, ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
