Its origins trace back to the Darülfünun, founded during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, and restructured into its current form in 1933. Its main campus is located in the historic Beyazıt district, famous for the university's imposing main gate. 🔶 Beyazıt Square is a significant historical square located in the Fatih district of Istanbul. During the Byzantine period, it was known as the Forum Tauri (The Forum of the Bull). The square is bordered by the historic main gate of Istanbul University and the Beyazıt Mosque. It is a lively and bustling center, particularly known for its bookstores and secondhand book dealers (sahaflar). 🔶 The Beyazıt Mosque Complex (Külliye) was commissioned by Sultan Bayezid II and constructed between 1501 and 1506. It is one of the oldest surviving imperial mosques from the Ottoman period in Istanbul. It is regarded as an early example of Classical Ottoman architecture and is part of a külliye (social complex) that includes a madrasa, Turkish bath, soup kitchen (imaret), and tomb. 0:00 Istanbul 00:33 Beyazit 02:49 Bayezid II Tomb 04:20 Istanbul University 04:47 Beyazit Mosque 05:58 Beyazit Square 09:27 Beyazit Tram Station #istanbul #walkingtour #turkeytravel #cityambience #virtualtravel #streetvibes #travelın4k #exploreistanbul #istanbul4k #istanbulstreet #beyazıt #fatih #beyazıtmosque #istanbuluniversity
