Mieczysław Fogg & Orkiestra H. Golda – Wiem, że odejdziesz [I Know That You’ll Go Away] Tango (Wróblewski – Włast), Syrena-Electro 1936 (Polish) To all visitors to this canal and who like this music: Happy New Year 2022! NOTE: By the end of the 1930s, Polish record companies were in crisis. Radio became more and more popular, even though it was quite expensive (a popular radio apparatus cost about 160 zloty, which was the monthly salary of a postman). However, gramophones were also expensive (the cheapest portable model was c. 40 zlotys) and records weren’t cheap either (Syrena-Electro record cost 3 zlotys and foreign labels such as Columbia or Parlophon cost more than 5 zlotys, which equaled 1.5 American dollars). So, slowly but surely a wireless was becoming winner in this duel: buying it meant a one-time expense, but then there was plenty of music and it was free. Therefore, many Poles spent the New Year's night of 1936/37 (the year, when this record was produced) rather by the radio than a gramophone. The slideshow presents some pre-war advertisements for Polish radios from the 1930s.
