Normal ice floats. So why does this ice cube sink straight to the bottom? The answer is hiding inside its hydrogen atoms: one extra neutron. In this episode we meet isotopes, the same element with a different number of neutrons. We look at hydrogen's three versions, heavy water, why isotopes share the same chemistry, how carbon-14 dates ancient things, why chlorine's mass is 35.45, and the rare uranium-235 that changed history. ⚛️ A new NuclearVerse episode every day.
