1965 Western High School Marching Band Football Parade Flag

October 17th 2025 I am going to my 60th High School Graduation “Western High School” Las Vegas, NV. YUP 1965, a time machine away. My Mom filmed all of this video. I have no idea how she did it, an amazing lady. The STAR of the film is ME! Mom was videoing me as the “Drum Major” if our large marching and most of the time concert band which I was also solo clarinetist. The Band did two unique things, that Mr. Shwartz our director did. (Beside me being the most unlikely Drum Major, AND solo clarinetist … two other stories) The first thing we did that I never had seen another band do was “The Square Turn” rather than a “curve turn”. Too hard to explain now but it was pretty cool and got attention for sure. The second thing we did was roll out an “American Flag” onto the football field during our half time show I am sure this was one of Mr. Shwartz’s ideas also, I so wish I could tell him how he helped form my life after high school. I think I was always a thorn in his side as I was always into something that I’m sure irritated him 😉. ChatGPT found the first recorded documentation on the flag roll out in 1978 University of Washington Husky’s in 1978 Western High School Marching band was 13 years ahead of them! Lastly the band was the greatest and I had a BLAST. The Baton Twirlers that marched beside me were the very very best, you will see them practicing in the clips.
