The Heat of Raichur l Manikonda to Malpe

After crossing the Krishna River and entering Karnataka, the road ahead takes us through Raichur in the peak summer of 2026. The roads come in all varieties, from good stretches to rougher patches, but the real challenge is the heat. With temperatures already above 41°C, the afternoon climbs to a scorching 43°C. Raichur's largely open, treeless roads offer little relief to a rider under the summer sun. By around 2 PM, shelter, water and lunch become less of a luxury and more of a necessity. Fortunately, a closed shop gives us a little shade to stop, hydrate and recover. Once back on the road, the questions begin. Hampi or Malpe? Hampi looks achievable by sunset. Malpe is still more than 350 km away, with an estimated arrival around 5 AM. As the afternoon slips away, the decision becomes increasingly difficult. By 5 PM, the unreasonable thought starts sounding tempting: Can we just ride? No stop. No halt. All the way to Malpe? The road continues. The sun begins to descend. The decision remains open. Still riding.
