Now, the government wants to teach young Ugandans what patriotism means. And with the Kyankwanzi programme involving ideology, political history, security and military-style drills, the bigger question is whether this is about teaching young people to love Uganda or teaching them a particular version of Uganda’s politics. You can teach young Ugandans to love their country without teaching them that loving Uganda means agreeing with whoever is in power.
