Rwanda is planning a major expansion of its road network, with more than 300 kilometres of new main roads targeted by 2029. What will these projects change for people travelling across Kigali and between different parts of the country?
In this Rwanda Updates Media report, we explore the road development plans discussed by RTDA representatives on Rwanda TV’s **Waramutse Rwanda**, including the ambition to improve connections between provinces so that some journeys will no longer require passing through Kigali.
Drawing on the discussion featuring Théoneste Twagirumungu and François Gihoza Mivugo, the report examines planned projects, ongoing construction and the importance of connecting communities, businesses and essential services.
A key focus is the **Prince House–Giporoso–Masaka road expansion**, alongside improvements planned for major Kigali junctions, including **Chez Lando, Gishushu and Sonatubes**. These projects are intended to improve traffic movement and address congestion along important urban corridors.
Beyond Kigali, better road connections could make it easier for farmers to reach markets, businesses to transport goods and residents to access schools, healthcare and employment opportunities.
Watch to understand the difference between roads already completed, projects under construction and plans awaiting implementation—and why those distinctions matter when assessing Rwanda’s infrastructure ambitions.
