A first look at what's coming in the next release of my Sega Model 2 core for MiSTer FPGA. This is the original 1993–94 Model 2 board, recreated in the FPGA, and it now runs three games from one core: Daytona USA, Desert Tank and Virtua Cop.
DAYTONA USA (Deluxe '93 and Revision A)
Arcade speed: 57.5 frames a second, in attract and in races
Mip-mapping: distant textures no longer shimmer. Sharp, Medium, Smooth or Off in the menu, and your own car stays at full detail
Sound balance and music tempo now match the arcade
The background no longer jerks against the 3D in slides
Volume, steering smoothing, and right-stick support for wheels
DESERT TANK (new)
Runs on the same core with its own MRA
Left stick steers, right stick aims the cannon, triggers drive forward and reverse
Machine gun, cannon and the three views all mapped
VIRTUA COP (new, work in progress)
Boots and runs its attract mode
Its own I/O board is now recreated in the core
Light-gun support for analog sticks and mice, so USB light guns that show up as either (Sinden, GUN4IR and others) should work
Two players, a crosshair for each (Small, Large or Off), and reload by shooting off-screen
CRT OWNERS
15 kHz now starts at the standard 15.7 kHz, and 15.4 and 15.1 kHz are still there if your set prefers them
A width option that keeps the picture's shape at the higher line rates
MRAs that start straight in 15 kHz
Everything is still being tested and Virtua Cop is the newest part, so expect rough edges. It'll be released when it's ready. Older releases are on GitHub now.

You supply your own ROMs; none are included.
Thanks to the people whose work this builds on: the MiSTer framework team, Jorge Cwik (fx68k), Jose Tejada (jt12), meathax (the MultiPCM from the System 32 core), the Sega Model 1 MiSTer core, and the MAME team, whose Model 2 driver was the reference throughout.
