I Left Greece 18 Years Ago ,11 Years Later in Japan, Here’s My Story

In 2004, I tried to leave Greece for the first time. I was 22. I failed. In 2008, I tried again. I was 26+. And this time , something inside me was different. Seven years in Toronto, Canada. Starting from zero. Learning English in a classroom. Calling home on a calling card. Counting minutes. Counting cost. In that same classroom ,meeting the person who would change everything. She was from Japan. In 2015, we chose Japan. Two to three years before I could do simple things alone. Rebuilding myself not for the second time, for the third. The same country that felt impossible started giving me something I didn't know I needed. Peace. Today I go back to Greece every year. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. But it is no longer where I see my future. My parents are no longer here. My sister lives in Germany. My brother lives in Cyprus. Home moved. 18 years away from Greece. 7 years in Canada. 11 years in Japan. Three countries. Three different lives. One person. And one simple lesson Home is not one place anymore. Sometimes, home is the life you build. 🇬🇷 Greece where I come from. 🇨🇦 Canada where I learned how to begin again. 🇯🇵 Japan where I may spend the rest of my life.
