This home movie begins with 5mins of Butlins Clacton-on-Sea Essex. My Mum & Dad took us from Romford, Essex to Butlins Skegness in 1955, we had a great time there! 1960S A further three resorts opened, at Bognor Regis (1960), Minehead (1962) and Barry Island (1966). The 1960s also saw the famous monorails brought to Skegness and Minehead, and other new innovations being opened on the camps including Billy Butlin, Butlins today! Skegness is where the Butlin’s story began. Founded in 1936 by Billy Butlin, it was the UK’s first-ever holiday camp and is just as popular now as it’s always been. We’re super proud of our rich heritage, so you’ll find lots of original elements combined with 21st-century facilities. Our Traditional Fairground (complete with vintage stall games) pays homage to our seaside roots, while our brand-new entertainment venues keep things fresh and vibrant. When the sun’s shining, make the most of our adrenalin-fuelled outdoor activities. Take your pick from the high ropes, climbing wall, go-karts and freefall, or run off some energy at Butlin's SKYPARK. And when the weather’s not playing ball? There are loads of things to do inside including laser tag, bowling, sand art and, of course, our huge Splash Waterworld featuring nearly 3000 square metres of fun, with high-speed flumes, racing rapids, a pool for tots and a winding vortex slide that sends you spinning into a giant bowl. After all that excitement, you’ll need somewhere comfy to rest and recharge. Choose one of our Premium Lodges which opened in 2024, or take your pick from our range of comfortable rooms, apartments and caravans.
