Who Killed Bogle? Dancehall’s Greatest Dancer (Unsolved Murder)
Bogle taught dancehall how to dance. On January 20, 2005, he was shot at a Kingston gas station after leaving Weddy Weddy Wednesday. Hours later, rival dancer John Hype’s home was burned. Beenie Man offered a million Jamaican dollars for information leading to the killers—but the case remained unanswered.
This YAAD FILES documentary examines Gerald “Bogle” Levy’s final hours, the reported dispute before the shooting, the aftermath, and the legacy of the Black Roses Crew. From the Bogle dance to World Dance and Wacky Dip, his influence lived far beyond that night.
Who were the men on the motorbike? What happened at the dance? And why did such a public killing remain unresolved?
According to the Jamaica Observer’s January 2025 anniversary reporting, no one had been charged with Bogle’s murder. John Hype denied involvement and was not charged in connection with his death. This documentary separates reported events from allegations and unanswered questions.
