Ijswaltz (Ice Waltz)

Philip & Hilali picked this lovely old Dutch waltz as their opening waltz for this party. The first time through, Hilali and Philip danced it alone. The second time through, everyone who knew it (i.e., International folk dancers) were invited to dance it with them. This is a Dutch traditional waltz with a long history. It started out as a tune called Oude Passepie, published in Hollantsche Schouwburg (Amsterdam, 1696-1716). In 1925 A. Sanson-Catz invented a dance around the tune that now is known as Ijswals or Ice Waltz.
