This is a very ordinary video of a very ordinary day's ride.
The forecast for the day had a fairly strong wind from the northwest (the reality seemed a lot lighter). As I like to start by riding against the wind I would normally have chosen to ride from Boston to Lincoln and back with this wind direction. However I feel that I have done that ride quite a few times recently and I just wanted to go further afield and I also wanted to have a tailwind not a headwind.
You may have seen a video which I produced a few weeks ago of a "training" ride in which I rode from Boston to Worksop with a tailwind from the southwest and then returned by train (for me, a training ride is one where a train does half the work). Today the wind was in the opposite direction so an obvious solution to my problem was to do the same training ride only backwards. When you do a ride backwards the views are very different!
That is where the title comes from! I hope you've worked it out! I had all day to think of a title and all my other ideas were worse than that one! Sorry if you hate it! If you haven't worked it out, look at the title of my previous training ride!
One feature of this ride which I will remember is the temperature; yesterday there was a very cold wind and the morning temperature today also was supposed to be just above freezing. Because of this I wore a great many layers of clothing. I was comfortably warm waiting on the platform for my 6:13 train but by the time I set off from Worksop at about 9:30 it was already very much warmer. I peeled off three or four layers and later in the day I would gladly have removed more if only I had somewhere to put them. The afternoon was quite warm enough for shorts!
I felt rather tired during this ride and I was quite disappointed with how I performed – I just didn't seem to have any energy. Things got even worse when I set off again after stopping to take a photograph soon after Lincoln and the pressure of accelerating in too high a gear hurt my knee. I had to take things very easily for the last 20 miles or so and I am rather anxious about how the knee will heal as I have had a lot of problems with it during the last two years.
I really only filmed this video because a) I took my camera just in case something interesting passed in front of me and b) I had a brand new (warranty replacement) drone to test. I didn't intend to produce a video for public release but having made it and liked it myself I thought I might as well inflict it on you too! I hope you have enjoyed it or at least that you don't feel I have wasted 7 minutes of your life!
Thanks for watching and for reading my ramblings!
