Welcome 2015 Mandela Washington Fellows!

This summer 25 young leaders will join the Institute for Global Studies for the the Mandela Washington Fellowship, the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). The program creates unique opportunities for Fellows to put new skills to practical use in propelling economic growth and prosperity and strengthening democratic institutions in Africa. At UD, the Fellows will spend six weeks in an academically grounded program focused on practical skill building. Fellows will engage in community service and participate in site visits and cultural activities in Newark and Wilmington, elsewhere in Delaware, and in nearby metropolitan areas. University of Delaware faculty in political science and international relations, public policy and administration, communication, black American studies, history, and applied economics, among others, will provide academic sessions, and UD professional staff in information technology, human resources, development, communications and marketing, and teaching and learning will provide leadership training.
