Scott’s Best Soil-Less Grindal Worm Culture is: way less mess, very easy to harvest worms easy to clean repurposes recyclable containers easy to feed (I just use assorted fish foods) virtually non-fragrant Grindal Worms (Enchytraeus buchholzi) are tiny white non-parasitic worms living in soils throughout our great Mother Earth . They are similar but smaller (and their care differs slightly) to that of White Worms commonly used by aquarists as a source of food for their fish, amphibians or invertebrates. Grindal Worms are a great food source to feed your young fry & micro fish (under a few centimetres/inches). This species of worm was discovered by Mrs.Morten Grindal of Sweden who was attempting to improve her White Worm culture and stumbled upon these small worms by accident. When properly cared for & maintained, like with everything else regarding aquariums/terrariums, there should be no issues & success will be yours for a long time. A good maintenance schedule keeps everything running smoothly. I’ve have had Grindal worm cultures up & running for over two years with proper cleaning. The best Grindal worm feeding regime, is only feed what the worms can eat in two to three days. So use that as your gauge. Food sitting in a culture for more than that will foul the culture easily. One good note about feeding your worms I’ve learned from experience , “feed, feed, harvest” & you’ll have a robust, healthy & productive culture. Also, as you harvest, keep an eye out for an expanding culture (meaning they will reproduce). You may need to split your culture in two if things are going well. You can always trade/sell with other hobbyists. I always have a minimum of 2 running at any given time in case of a crash. You’re probably thinking, “What if I go on holidays?”. I’ve left my cultures without food for 7 to 9 days without a crash. Just make sure you feed them a day or two before you leave & make sure the foam they live in is moist enough. Follow my good tips in this, My Grindal Worm video and I wish you much success in worm culturing. Live foods cannot be matched by any prepared foods you feed your animals.
