Autumn jazz at a Paris cafe terrace — a little over two hours of warm 1940s vintage jazz, all slow and mid-tempo, for reading, slowing down, and lingering over one more cup on a golden afternoon.
It opens at a small marble table outside a cafe in Paris. Emma sits with her cheek in her hand, cream headphones around her neck, listening and smiling, while across from her a kind silver-haired woman in a deep red scarf holds her coffee cup in both hands and tells an old story. The breeze moves through the golden trees and the potted shrubs, and the warm lamps glow inside the cafe. Later, we look out at the two of them from inside, past the flowers and the open door, toward the fountain and the plane trees.
Stay a while with them. The songs are about the small, steady things that make an ordinary afternoon feel like yours: coffee with someone you love, letting curiosity lead the way, listening a little longer, treating yourself kindly, staying for a second cup, celebrating small victories, hearing someone dear in your own voice, a long table with room for one more, a wish made for someone else, carrying a journey home, and every goodbye that holds a next time. Everything here is soft and close — light and gently low vocals sung near the microphone, felt piano and nylon-string guitar at the heart of every song, with upright bass and soft brushes underneath, and a soft tenor saxophone on one song, at the same calm, steady pace from start to finish.
Put it on and let the afternoon linger. Relaxing autumn jazz for reading, studying, working quietly, or simply sitting outside with a coffee — cafe jazz and coffee jazz for cozy days, Paris jazz for golden terrace light, soft 1940s jazz and vintage jazz that keeps you company without asking for attention. All the songs have soft vocals.
☕ Now we talk like old friends.

ABOUT THE READING ROOM
Whispered Music for the Reading Hours.
The Reading Room is a quiet place you can return to. Every video is another page from the same story — the same friends, a different place and a different light. Reading is a kind of travelling, and today it took us to a cafe terrace in Paris, with a warm cup, a good conversation and the whole afternoon ahead.
Emma has company today, someone very dear to her. Oliver, her white cat, is keeping the window seat warm at home, and Atlas, the great white dog, is waiting by the door to hear all about it.
New reading hours are added regularly. Subscribe so the room is always here when you need it.
