Special One is a celebration of Alan Namoko (1956–1995) the legendary blind musician from Malawi who left an enduring mark on the nation's culture. Born in the Thyolo district, he lost his sight to measles as a child but went on to build his own instruments and develop a highly celebrated, intricate banjo and guitar style. Singing soulful, nostalgic tracks in local languages like Lomwe, Chewa, and Nyanja, Namoko rose to prominence during the 1970s and 1980s. Accompanied by the Chimvu Jazz Band, he popularized the rural pamtondo fusion genre, and was the first Malawian musician internationally released on Compact Disc. Despite language barriers, his evocative folk-blues sound achieved international recognition, leading to global tours and multiple features on the UK's iconic John Peel Show before his death in November 1995
